After the reunification of Germany, U. Army Berlin was deactivated in 1994. The complex now known as Roosevelt Barracks was built in 1884 to house a Royal Prussi.

Checkpoint Charlie was designated as crossing point for foreigners and members of the Allied forces. Members of the Allied forces were not allowed to use the other sector crossing points.
